It is evident from many passages in the life of Bishop Patteson (Life of J. C. Patteson by C. M. Yonge 1874: see more especially Vol I p 530) that the aborigines of the several Melanesian archipelagos suffered in health to an extraordinary degree many having died— when removed to any other island, even one within the Tropics
