most curiously convoluted & mingled with the surrounding substance. — at (c) I have drawn these curves as carefully as I could (drawing them on the spot): but the regularity & number of the folds is not here at all well represented. At (H) there is a regular anticlinal line of the clay bed. I could trace every inch of it excepting low in the centre. — all violence is here out of the question: how could current separate & incline at 65° the two substances: how could currents produce such curves synclinal & anticlinal lines:

Cliff — about 25 feet high, as here drawn:

Fig. 2 shows a main bed (F) about 18 inches thick, with other minor ones which dip at are composed of yellowish very sandy clay, & lie in a coarser sort:

one end dips at small angle to the South, other is twisted & bent back on itself, as represented (reminded me of the quartz in Falkland Island. —). —

In the main bed F I counted 20 small basin shaped masses, about a foot wide

from being placed at pretty regular intervals they resembled ornaments round a building. — at beyond the main curve there were others, but not nearly so regular. —
