RECORD: Darwin, C. R. [c. 1857-1864]. [Note to W. W. Baxter?] 'distilled Water in clean Bottle for Photography'. HIBD-DarwinLetter. Edited by John van Wyhe (Darwin Online, http://darwin-online.org.uk/)

REVISION HISTORY: Transcribed and edited by John van Wyhe 2.2023. RN1

NOTE: See record in the Darwin Online manuscript catalogue, enter its Identifier here. Reproduced with permission of William Huxley Darwin. This note was published in Correspondence vol. 30, p. 203. The editors noted: "From 1857, W. W. Baxter of Bromley was CD's regular chemist. The date is established from references to buying photography supplies for William Erasmus Darwin in CD's Classed accounts (Down House MS). CD spent £9 5s. on 'Photography' on 23 July 1857, and £2 15s. on 'Photography for William' on 28 December 1857. (These particular payments were unlikely to have been to Baxter, however; CD paid Baxter's bill annually, in January (CD's Account books–cash account).)" William continued photography at Down House at least until 1864 when he is known to have taken three surviving photographs of Darwin. See The Complete Photographs of Darwin by John van Wyhe.
