Introduction –

Man is descended from some other form lower in the scale, so that it was necessary for me to consider the subject. I likewise wished to ascertain how far to say emotions are expressed in the same manner by the different races of man. Every reader can judge for himself whether I have succeeded in throwing any little additional light on this amusing, though not very important, subject.
