DOWN,

BECKENHAM, KENT

RAILWAY STATION

ORPINGTON. S.E.R.

Wed July 27 -81

My dear George

F. & I are much vexed to hear what poor hopes you have of the success of the pendulum — but I can't help hoping that some side long benefit may come out of it.

We shall be a large party on Sat, as William will be here till

[2]

Tuesday — suppose you were to come on Monday when the Farrers will be gone. Also we are going to Eras. on Wed — & I think Eras. shd have 1 day between your visit & ours —

The week after we have Miss Gladstone who is very cordial about coming

She says her father has

[3]

borne this tremendous strain admirably —

Here is Sara's last; how happy they are without Mlle. They have been too feeble in bearing her all this time; for she is not even a good teacher.

Frank will come home about Aug 1 — He starts tomorrow for Wurzburg but Sachs's conduct about his wife putting her in an asylum & taking a mistress

[4]

has been so bad, he dislikes seeing him. Her friends have taken her out of the asylum —

F. & I are going to Mr Rich sometime in Sep. so I think you my put off that piece of virtue, yours my dear G —

We have the 2 Farrers boys — w. is a good thing — as more effectually stopping any confidential talk
