Down, Wed [15 August] (83)

My dear George

I was sadly disappted at your falling back so much, & your visit must have been very irksome —

Our party is dispersing tomorrow — Ellen & (Frank as far as London) to Yorkshire & Oxford — & Sara to Basset— I am sure I shall be fond

[2]

of Ellen She is very modest & she has plenty of feeling. I long to see her father & talking as merrily as she used to do; but she looks quiet & subdued — She & Frank are gone to R-bourne & on to Addington today —

When Bessy was there with her the other day the Arch. spoke very nicely about William as a favourite & a sensible boy.

Leo & Eliz. came on Monday — She looking so well & he so comfortable — I feel very easy & comf. with her — They will stay a fortnight & then settle at home — Bessy is gone today up to London to do some shopping w. Henrietta preparatory to our move to the Grove —

Post time so Goodbye my dear old man I

[3]

hope you have taken a turn — Have you & the Farrers met?

yours my dear E D
