George's manuscript notes for C are in the Galton papers at University College London [and here]. 1855-58 Aide-de-Camp of James Pollock, governor of Pennsylvania, with rank of Colonel. 1858 C settled in London. 1879 Henrietta "My brothers had been having the pedigree of the Darwins made out by a certain Colonel Chester". [George Howard Darwin:]
Colonel Chester is an American resident for 20 years in England, & well-known as an archæologist; he is the author of a large book on Westminster Abbey.
His name was mentioned to my brother Leonard when in Lincolnshire in the summer of 1879, by Mr Peacock of Bollesford Manor (a well-known archæologist as being the "most learned genealogist in Europe"
At the request of my brother & myself Col. Chester kindly consented to undertake the investigation of which the above is a report.
