Dear Mr Darwin,
Some time ago I sent yr late lamented father a copy of my book "Across Patagonia," which he was good eno' to say he appreciated, and before leaving for Africa last year during the Boer War, I solicited & obtained his permission to dedicate my forthcoming book of travels in South Africa to him. – It is now ready for publication but I hesitate to make use of Mr. Darwin's name without first receiving your permission to dedicate the book to the memory of one whose humble admirer I have ever been, & whose books have afforded me many a pleasant hour's reading. Apologising for troubling you I remain
Sincerely yours,
Florence Dixie
