4 Feb. 1875

Dear Mr Ffinden

I have received your letter & have written accordingly to Mr Darwin.

Will you permit me to add, having known both Mr & Mrs Darwin

[1v]

intimately for many years, that I am sure they would neither of them have intended any discourtesy to you, & there must be some mistake which I should think might easily be cleared up.

[2]

It seems a first that there should be any want of harmony, & I am sure that you would find them excellent neighbours & invaluable friends.

I do not of course wish to be officious, but if I could in any way

[3]

remove what I am sure must be some accidental misunderstanding, I should of course be glad.

Believe me

yours very truly

John Lubbock

Rev. G.S. Ffinden
