Royal College of Surgeons,

November 15, 1850.

My dear Sir,

I return herewith Mr. Huxley's papers on Physalia and the Diphydæ with my opinion of their merits. I have not given the analysis of their special additions for I found from after the commencement that it would be nearly a transcript of the closely-recorded observations, but I have felt much pleasure in expressing the general impression

which the study of these valuable & welcome contributions to an obscure part of Natural History has produced.

With my best acknowledgements to the Council for the honour they have done me in requesting my examination of the papers

Believe me, ever your faithfully

Richd Owen.

J. J. Bennett Esq &c &c &c
