My dear Mr Darwin
I have found one more note which I send you though there is little in it except an explanation of the cause of the white grapes turning purple: though afterwards he said it was a puzzle to him all together.
The cheque alluded to was his annual payment towards the support of our "Beagle's" boy in the orphanage at the mission station: who was a grandson of Jemmy Button.
And for the last sentence about his health & work. I should not have thought it worth sending this to you – but that shows how he worked nearly to the last (within eighteen months) for we know that "fairly well" to him would by most be considered very poor health to stand working
With very kind regards to Mrs Darwin
Believe me, very sincerely yours
B.J. Sulivan
ps After leaving you at [illeg] I was very sorry I forgot to ask about your dear little child I saw at Down.
