Sir,

Some years ago, I read in an Hungarian newspaper that the correspondence of the immortal late Charles Darwin was to be published and every one who possessed letter of the great man was begged to communicate it. Then, not knowing if this notice was authorizated I would not bring myself to part with a letter so precious to me. The latest number of the Revue des deux Mondes informs me that you, Sir, have really undertaken the task to publish your illustrious father's correspondence, as a light more for the story of his life. Learning this, I feel it as my duty,

[30]

knowing that this interesting work shall appear in some editions more, to send also this letter that I am happy enough to have got from the greatest representative of science of our century.

As explication of the interesting letter I must remark that in the year of 1874 I was occupied with the study of the identity between moral and natural laws and in this research I took the liberty to address some questions to Charles Darwin. This letter is the answer to my questions.

I beg you, dear Sir, to return the letter, after having used it.

Faithfully yours

Földes-Weisz

Professor of political economy and statistics of the Budapest University
