Introduction:
On 8 June 1868, Darwin wrote to the Bibliographisches Institut, a German publishing company in Hildburghausen to say that he had read "a considerable part" of Brehm's Illustrirtes Thierleben and "think it quite excellent." The letter to the Bibliographisches Institut, 8 June 1868, is published in Correspdonence, vol. 16, p. 570. The book was first mentioned to Darwin by Kovalevsky who edited and translated the work.[page] 4
