434 DARWIN (Charles) A. L. s. 3pp. 8vo. March 30, n.y. 16, Montague St. Portman Sq. to George Eliot, asking whether his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. Litchfield, may call on her, and concluding:
My wife complains that she has bene very badly treated & that I ought to have asked permission for her to call on you with me when we next come to London : but I tell her that I still have some shreds of modesty.
