708 DARWIN (CHARLES)

A.L.s., 1 p., 8vo, Down, 24 September [no year], returning thanks for the gift of his correspondent's treatise on Coelenterata

... I was but lately wishing to read some treatise up to the present mark, on these animals. I have cut the pages & can clearly see that your work will much interest & instruct me . . .

717 DARWIN (CHARLES)

A.L.S., 2 pp., 8vo, Bassett, Southampton, 7 Oct., [1876], [to the printer George Clowes], about the printing of the second edition of his book on Orchids.

The type etc., will do very well for my book on Orchids. I cannot remember at all how many pages the First Edit, contained & I have no copy here.—Therefore before you actually begin to set up, it would be adviseable to inform Mr. Murray that the new Edit, will be about 300 pages, & whether he approves of this. I shall not be up for correcting until my present book is finished & I have had 3 or 4 days rest . . .
