80 DARWIN, CHARLES English naturalist; wrote The Origin of Species

A.L.S., 3 full pages, 8vo, Down, Bromley, Kent, February 2nd. With two fragments of a holograph letter, to one of which is pasted Darwin's signature. In all, three pieces.

Fine scientific letter in handsome condition: "I remember seeing in The Field an excellent article...on the regrowth of the fins of fishes when cut off...I should be very much obliged if you would inform me (1) what kinds of fish were tried, (2) what fins, whether pectoral, dorsal &c. were cut (3) whether whole or half or quarter of fins was cut off (4) whether the bony...were again formed, & whether the fin ultimately appeared perfect. I wish to quote the fact on your authority in a work which I am preparing for publication..." Attractive, and bearing Darwin's scarce full signature.
