317 DARWIN (CHARLES)

L.S. (with autograph postscript), 4 pp., 8vo, 4 September, 1873, ordering some salts from an unnamed correspondent (".. . I procured a few grains of an immense number of salts of all the alkalis & earths from Messrs. Hopkin & Williams, & they charged me at such an extremely low rate, that I am ashamed to ask them to supply me again. . . "), asking him to weigh the salts and measure the water with great care ("... charging me for all the unusual care. .."), specifying his requirements in detail ("... but my knowledge of chemistry is 40 yrs. old."), adding in his autograph postcript ("I shd be grateful if you cd obtain the above very soon, as I am anxious to finish my work"), slightly torn, not affecting text.

*** The body of the letter is possibly written by Darwin's son, George Howard Darwin.
