TWO A.L.S.s, 7 pages, 8vo, Down, Bromley, Kent 8 and 25 November [1858] to James Egan, in the first letter, requesting from his correspondent, a fellow-contributor to the Gardeners' Chronicle and living in Hungary, details of the colouring of Hungarian horses (". . . I am trying to investigate the laws of inheritance of colours . . . ") and in the second, thanking Egan for his prompt reply neatly repaired in folds, with envelopes
... I have seen it stated in print that the Horses of Hungary, frequently have a dark stripe down the spine . . . what I most want to know ... is whether such stripes are plainer in the foal or in the full-grown horse. In England such stripes are observed only on dun-coloured horses . . .
