436 DARWIN (CHARLES)

A.L.S., 3 pages, 8vo, Down, Beckenham, Kent, 5 May 1880, to a cousin (possibly Hensleigh Wedgewood, 1803-1891, philologist), expressing his conviction that "no good Scientific Journal" would publish the paper his cousin had sent in which he had attempted to reconcile Genesis and Science, and regretting the death of his correspondent's brother (". . . my dear & very old friend ... I do not believe that there ever existed a man with a sweeter disposition . . ."), pin holes at head.

*** Included in the lot is the note: "What C.D. alludes to was only a bit I sent him, to ask him if he did believe Genesis & Science were both true & divine in their origin".
