These were edited and superintended by Charles Darwin who acted as naturalist on the expedition. The publications also contain: 'Fossil Mammalia' by Richard Owen, Professor of anatomy and physiology in The Royal College of Surgeons, London. 'Mammalia' by George R. Waterhouse, curator of the Zoological Society of London with a notice of their habits and ranges by Darwin. 'Birds' by John Gould, with a notice of their habits and ranges by Darwin. 'Fish' by The Reverend Leonard Jenyns. 'Reptiles' by Thomas Bell.
