From the auction description: Autograph manuscript, title "sect 7. Instinct", being the page numbered "270" from the manuscript of On The Origin Of Species. (c 1858). 1 page on the recto only of a leaf of wove blue paper (8 1/4 x 6 in; 208 x 165 mm), 140 words, with several deletions, emendations, and interlineations; geometric exercises on the recto, with Darwin annotations. Formerly folded, bottom of the sheet cut out affecting the first words of the last line. The text corresponds, with a number of stylistic differences, to lines 6 to 21 on page 238 (Chapter 7 - "Instinct" - session "Neuter or sterile insects") of the first edition of On the Origin of Species.
