Scabiosa atro-purpurea July 7th 1863

2 forms — one with very long stamen properly far out of flower & plenty pollen — with short pistil which project hardly out of flower.—

The other second form with long pistil (but with smaller less oblique stigma), but so long as stamen of 1st form, but longer considering that its pistil — with short stamens enclosed anthers corolla — The anthers are shrivelled & white; but contain some pollen grains, which do not swell in water, but have conspicuous nucleus like those of other forms.) Corolla in this second or female form is smaller, especially the large filament of circumference—
