Jun 19th 66. W. sent me fl. of Rhamnus catharticus from Is. of W. Female fl with very rudimentary stamens & do petals & male sepals.— Male fl. with rudiment of pistil— & larger petals, yet 1/2 aborted or minute & large sepals.— Thirdly a kind of Herm: with quite small but large pistil than in male fl. good sized stamens & petals as in male fl. It is apparently made with pistil not so completely aborted & so species less rudimentary unisexual as a whole than in Holly.— As stamens are more aborted in →
