(1A

1864 Results of spontaneous Unions of Homomorphic Lythrums. During year 1864 Summer most dry & Hot so that all plants were watered & results cannot be fully trusted. No doubt all unions were heteromorphic & probably with pollen from heteromorphic plants, for so many [growing] together.

(All used)

(All used except about weather)

Plants for comparison—

(To show effects of dimorph; one old mid long-styled plant produced only at highest average 55.5 seed; & a 2-yeared old mid long-styled plant 73.6 seed.)

(Of mid-styled, the old plant produced average of 128.6; & a 2-year old mid-styled only 36.2. So that no natural union this season can be trusted.)

considering that these plants were fully-grown yet dwarfs & were well watered & were probably well fertilised heteromorphically & Bear with good pollen, are apparently very sterile.

The above remarks apply here, except plants were too young to seed well & many of them plant did not ripen seed.

This shows that this Union which was so fertile produce quite fertile offspring, & we see that some of these one-year old plant may be quite fertile.

These seem sterile

Hom. plants spontaneous Unions—

1C.

These may have all been heteromorphically fertilised by good pollen

Nor 27 is fully fertile

It is impossible to guess whether this slight sterility is due to dry weather, growth or Homomorphic nature.
