Long-styled 79 in pollen of both sets of anthers, a scattering of bad grains but possibly not much more than might occur in any plant ─ Yes, much more see nos. 31, 30, & 27.─

Mid-styled 82, in both sets of a. as nearly as many bad & shrivelled grains in field at each point as of good grains. {I looked again at other flowers at green pollen a multitude of small shrivelled grains

Mid-styled 75, some few anthers of longer stamens contabescent in some few flowers… I saw one with 1/2 on one cell in other state─ Pollen equal-grained, & very few shrivelled. but does not swell well with water, does not become transparent

Pollen of shorter anther good & equal-sized.─ [in margin:] All Chap V

Long-styled 99. In both sets a pretty large scattering of small shrivelled grains ─ perhaps 1/5 or 16 of number, as in nor. 79.─

(No 10 old Hom. Long-styled ─ no anthers contabescent ─ pollen-grain very few bad, rather more in shorter stamens.)

[B79v]

no I (now growing in Potato field) in most flowers some contabescent anthers; but pollen in anther not contabescent, not with many bad grains.─

(Sept. 20 1866 The early part of summer not favourable & Plant I & II in Potato field have not produced a pod─ nor. 10 has not, though the various & hardly sterile illegitimate plant growing close by have produced a great crop of pods.─
