Lythrum Exper: for 1866
Measure
Observe 112 whether long-styled & new do seedling & 68, what form.─ Allow no 10 to flower, pollen will not burst so little
Preserve 10 long-styled & 6 & measure how tall ─ (old lot.)
Cut all else down, except from 22 to 33 both inclusive & 34 75 to 99 both inclusive
Observe whether any of them here contabescent anthers & relative dwarfness.─
In lot 22 to 33 Keep no 27 → (Look at pollen for shrivelled grains & mark with white tape one other short-styled (not 25) no 27 & no 30 & one other long-styled
In lot 75 to 99 try 75 & one other mid-styled not 77 & long-styled 79 & one other not 78.─
Cut down all others after looking a little at contabescent anthers
These must, however, flower together.─

August 4th 29 inches ─ 2 ft + 5 inches 47 inches = 3 ft + 11 inches} perhaps will grow little taller |
Tallest plant of 2 in Potato field, same parentage as three 6 & 10.─ 28 inches
Tallest plant of tallest Homomorphic which will do as standard, perhaps rather too high a standard.─ is ─ 5 ft 9 inches = 69 inches
Now Aug 4th is 6 ft + 5 inches. ─ (77 inches)
