March 29' 1863 Sethia acuminata has been described by Mr Thwaites in his Enumeration of the plant of Ceylon Flora as presenting two forms stylosa et staminea. It is one of the Erythroxylidæ.—

He sent me some dried specimen — One form has 3 pistils nearly twice as long as other & rising far above stamen; the stigmas in this long-styled seems rather smaller then in the other. On the other hand the stamens in long-styled are very much shorter in the short-style, in which the anther rise far above the bigger stigmas. It is highly remarkable that in the long-styled, as Mr T. has remarked the short stamens are alternately longer & shorter; when in the short styled, the long stamens are equal in length.—

In the short-stamens (ie long-styled) the pollen grains are (weak eye-piece) 9-10/7000 — but in the longer stamen, as far as I dare [treat] from pollen removed from unopened flower has pollen-grains 10 to 13/7000 in diameter.

(no other specimen) (abt 100 to 83.) /over
