Oxalis acetosella July 1864 Under net

18 flowers marked with thread before opening & not touched yielded 10 pods or 55/100 & each contained on average 6.3 seed per pod.

(12 flowers were crossed with pollen from another plant, choosing one with rather different length of pistil, & these produced 10 pods, or 83/100 & each contained 7.9 seed per pod. So that this seems to indicate great considerable good from a cross.)

(But 14 flowers were reared to be fertilised by pollen of own flower; if really followed we have a result which represents the frequency — if [illeg] confirm it; for these 14 flowers yielded 11 pods or 79/100 & each produced 9.2 seed per pod.—)

Cleistogene

(8 imperfect flowers were marked: two failed to set: one split its seed: the 5 others produced on average 10 seed from pod — 1o rather more fertile,)

These latter seed seem, (as they did last year) much smaller pale yellow; & instead of being covered with irregular longitudinal ridges, slightly reticulated; they are covered with reticulated ridges.— Seeds same size & are all respects identical.—
