July 21 to 23d 1879 Ampelopsis— Effect of Light

In Verandah I see shoots project incomparably more on dark than on light side.— I therefore placed a plant with filaments on 2 shoots tied upright, leaving few inches free, in front of Study window, darkened on top & on all sides except front— & made tracing— there was only very a little circumnutation & no trace of whole shoot bending from light— The shoots do not exhibit any anheliotropism. — "More movement to than from light"
