Phalaris Canariensis

Jan 1. Put tin box over some more distant seedlings with hole in diameter & left for some Hour in front of paraffin Lamp. Those of the seedlings about. 2 of inch from hole were decidedly bent to it, & I rather think some of the more distant plants were.

So that a very small pencil of light acts.

Jan 2d straight this morning new Hole Jan 2d exposed to light about 10° 30' a.m This new & smaller Hole did not act, but these plants grew up were above it, & the fact goes for nothing.

Jan 3d The same seedlings exposed in Hothouse to light coming through the larger Hole & 4 of the younger plants decidedly bent to it — some of them were 1 1/2 inch from Hole— exposed from 10° 30'to 4°. 30'
