[132]

Nov 2d & 3d 1878 Tropaeolum majus

Not young internodes on nor Plants were observed for the sake of expected apheliotropism, but they were Heliotropic.

A plant 10 1/2 inches high had glass filament with 2 little triangles of paper attached to 4th internode from summit, (upper internode short short) & the point of attachment of filament 8 1/2 inches beneath horizontal glass so tracing fairly much enlarged— Plant surrounded on all sides & on summit with black paper except on one side facing N.E window. — Tracing A shows course of this internode from 8° a.m. on Nov. 2d to 10° 30' P.m. on Nov. 3d.—

On 4th & 5th it still continued slowly moving towards light, but not traced.—

Right-Hand Plant (Tracing B) 11 3/4 tall filament attached to 3d internode from apex of plant & similarly observed from 8° a.m Nov. 3d to 10° 20' a.m on Nov. 4th; it continued all 4th & morning of 5th Nov. moving off glass. — Circumnutated slightly & moved to light all the time —

[insertion:] (Distance of point where filament attached from Horizontal glass 7 inches.)
