Cyclamen Persica

The flower peduncles, whilst flower open stand upright, with the uppermost part, close to flower hooked down, so that flower may [illeg].

As pod swells peduncle lengthens considerably & bows downward, the upper hooked part straightening itself, till the pod, now large, rests on ground. —A peduncle with large pod was thus resting on ground it was lifted up so that pod was an inch or 2 from ground ground & tied by middle to stick, then filament was fixed transversely to pod with mark below .2 of inch distant, & movement traced on Hor. glass, illuminated only from above, so that movement of bud magnified 47 times.

Tracing shows that slight nutation whilst peduncle was again bending down or straightening itself for I do not know which — move movement traced from 1° 12 P.m on Feb. 18th to 8° a.m on Feb. 21.'

Feb. 21'— Peduncle was then loosened & untied & pods fell to within .1 of ground, & in about 1 hour touched with apex layer of fine sand beneath.

Feb. 26th 4° P.m (N.B Peduncle of other species become spiral see Dyer.)

the sand is now marked with slight [illeg] ─ sand all round has been occasionally damped.

[in margin:] This shows circumnutation during geotropism. (See tracing)
