June 9th. Ju Ivy Seedlings Light

Pot with seedling exposed during 2 very cloudy & rainy days in blackened box before S.W. window. Hypocotyl only slightly curved to light; but to day some little sun & Hycotyl (& cotyledons themselves) distinctly curved to light. Therefore stem, as Sachs says Heliotropic, when (though very slightly compared with many plants) whole stem when few inches long distinct a far more strongly apheliotropic.—

Tropaeolum I suppose is analogous case
