Asparagus. — Light

Oct. 26 1878 — Pot exposed in dark room from 2° 50' a.m to 4° 30' P.m to bright Paraffin Lamp— summit of young stem, (some just rising above ground some an inch high, & all intermediate height) bent rectangularly to light, but not the basal part, & sand lay quite close round the basal parts, great contrast with Phalaris & Avena.—

Good check experiment— same sand, syringed before exposure in exactly same way.—
