Celery seedlings Light

Exposed to Lamp at 11° 30, removed 4. 40 — ie only about 5° Seedlings too old

(11.) cap at very base .2 deep— slightly curved to light— Jan 4th do from daylight

Pipes or caps — I think useless

(12) repainted .22 deep beneath Cots.— quite vertical! Probably Too old

Jan 4th daylight bowed to light

(13) cap at very base .2 deep — All the upper part above basal cap greatly bowed

Jan. 4th morning upright— in evening bowed to light

(14) pipe close beneath Cots. embracing leaving basal part exposed .23 deep— Quite Vertical Perhaps Too old

Jan 4th daylight not bent

(It is important with 4 of the older seedlings, (.95 tall) to which nothing had been done, were not in the least bowed — no signs of new true leaves.)

(15) cut both Cots. off — slightly bowed to light

These cases indicate that basal part not sensitive, but that upper part beneath cots are is sensitive— probably as much as .25— But try .2 again— With the young seedlings the bowing goes down to within .1 of ground & with very young ones to very ground; with the upper bearing Cots. almost horizontal.
