Canary grass placed in dark
Effects of painting one side with oily matter
(7) & (8) Spermaceti & Lamp-black on one side— (which previously had splinter of glass
4° 30 both considerably curved— especially the taller one
(A) Spermaceti ointment which had splinter—already much bowed obliquely to light
not curved
(10) 2 tall ones upright which had splinter attached with olive oil & Lamp-black
4° 30' straight, but whole plant inclined to painted side
(9) much inclined to light olive oil & black
4° 30' slightly curved
(B) short plant slightly inclined to light oil & black
upper part curved
These observations show that when one side painted the other side goes on growing & thus the unpainted side become convex
