Quill Caps painted & unpainted
Exposed to Lamp from 8. 40 to 8° 30'
6 Quill-caps extending down for .25 from tip & 6 do. painted Prepared by self. Pot marked A — Caps moderately loose, allowing tips to curve within towards light.
(1) not painted moderately inclined to light
(2) do greatly inclined to light, but not basal portion
(3) do (monstrous as are some other specs) inclined to right angle to light
(4) do greatly inclined to light down to base
(Jan 13th 8° a.m All the Quills black & white as vertical as the free plants)
(5) do very slightly inclined, but not upper part within quill
(6) do vertical short plant & stood behind other blackened ones
(7) painted, much inclined to light base of pipe open, & I cd see glimmer of light on one side
(8) do vertical or rather bowed in opposition to light
(9) do Vertical
(10) do. slightly inclined to light (cap loose at top, but I cd not see let in light)
(11) do doubtful & slightly inclined to light (I can see a little light enters)
(12) decidedly inclined, but by holding up cap to light, I can see bright light entering
Thread tied round .25 from tip D almost vertical (C) bent as much as others. — next morning vertical.
Two which had previously been painted with Indian Ink round bases were permanently curved to one side & were not acted on by light

Jan 13th reversed pot & put in S W. window from 11° to 4°. 30'.— 1 Slightly bowed, 2 & 3 upright— 4 fallen prostrate, 5 slightly bowed to light— 6 well bowed—
Painted quills 7 & 9 bowed to light, 8. slightly bowed— 12 very slightly bowed. 10 & 11 upright— Tips of free plants inclined to light— All this refers to my paper on [fert]
A few of these have reversed curvature on the following morning
Splinters of glass
(1) glass splinter very slightly curved
(2) do very slightly bent
