Nov 23d. Brushed roughly with strong needle 4 or 5 times 3 glands, moving them up & down, & removing some of viscid secretion.

After 20° 30' no effect. Then put on atoms of meat & their Hairs were immediately well incurved Old Notes (too late in year)

Nov 23. Brushed roughly 4 or 5 times 3 Hairs; in 21° one shorter one was a little incurved. Put meat on the 2 which had not moved & they were all well inflected, but slowly.

Nov 24 Brushed twice with needle 3 Hairs no effect in 24°. These were good Hairs well secreting

Nov. 25. Touched with edge of dye-knife several glands at footstalk enough to bend the hairs much in 24° 2 or 3 were incurved

Nov. 25. touched roughly 3 Hairs in 24° no effect. Tested their Hairs with minute bits of paper & two of them became incurved to centre, but one rather slowly —

Nov 25 touched roughly footstalk gland, in24° I think no effect perhaps one become inflected.

26 Touched once with bristle enough to bend hair 4 hairs, in 24° no effect

26th do do & do 2 or 3 Hairs & footstalks ones, in 24° perhaps trace of action in one. tested with meat the footstalk Hairs became well incurved
