Two leaves (by the accident) for 4 1/2 Hours

p. 12 in water no plain change

p 15 leaf in pure water for 21° 15 no change (except blackening of Heads)

C. of Amm 1 gr to 10 oz produced great effect in 1 hair

p. 18 leaf 16 1/2 hours no change, except blacking of Heads

(See to the 4 leaves which were kept equal time with 4 in amm & there were many leaves kept for hours before being put into C. of Ammonia) (In old Paper in 16° traces of breaking up below round Heads.)

p 19. in 41° broken matter much increased; few spheres below long-Head

another leaf in 17°; a few round-heads a trace broken; kept for 41° red matter much broken; few spheres behind long-Heads

p. 21. considerable inflection in 1° 48' & 2°

p 22 consid inflection in 3° - Examined one carefully - {no spheres behind L. H. no plain breaking up of red matter

p. 22 in two spec. 2° 40' - no changes in breaking up.

p 26 4 leaves in water from 2° 40 to 3° 50', inflection: in one (but not previously examined) a trace of spheres behind long Heads, & a very few minute ones below round Heads.

p. 30 cut off 3 Hairs in 3° no change p. 31 do with 3 otherHairs

Eastbourne M. S. (Abstract of effects of water

p 1. one leaf 6° 15 in water no change in Long round-headed & long-Headed marginal, but sub-marginals with red somewhat broken.

p. 2. leaf in sugar 3 gr to 1 oz no change in 2 hours. (Then put C. of ammonia)

p 4 do sugar. no change in 4 1/2 hours - added C. of Am 3. gr. to 1. great effect.

p 5. C. of soda (2 gr to 1 oz) 1° 12' no change. C. of am. produced great effect

p 6. Gum moderately thick no change 1° 42' (tested with c. of ammon)

p. 9. Cut off Hair & put under slip with 1/2 minute no change in 46'

p. 10. Hair under slip in 1° 19' no clear change; in 1° 56' appearance utterly different from spe. in Amm 1. gr to 12 oz for same time.

p. 11 Two Hairs under slip no change in 47'
