July 19 /73/ Carbonate of Ammonia 1 gr. to 20 oz.
(1) water 8. 15' (10. 45', O) (2. 30' ,O) (July 20th 8ºf. 30', O)
little Carbonate put in vessel
(The water specimen too old leaves)
carbonate 8. 5 (9. 3' glands so dark red almost blackened) This held good with all 4 specimen)
(10. 45' a few over pedicel inflected) (2. 30', all inflected except 1) (July 20 8. 20' do)
— see Nitrate Back
(2) water 8. 15' —(10. 45', O). (1. the outer discals of short sub-marginals forming fine ring) (July 20th 8. 20 great inflection except of outer 3 rows of outer marginals)
carbonate 8. 7' (10. 45' a few over pedicel inflected) (2. 20' only 1 inflected) (July 20' 8. 20' O.)
(3) water — (10, 45', o) (2. 30', O) (July 20th 8. 20' ,O)
carbonate 8. 8' (10. 45', 3 long Heads) (2. 30' all reexpanded) (July 20 8. 20' ,O)
(4) water 8º. 18' — (10. 45' ,O) (2. 30' 2 sub-marginals inflected) (July 20' 8. 20', O)
carbonate young leaf 8. 10' (8. 20' several tentacles inflected) (9.. 4 a large no inflect) (10. 45, 30 or 4 inflected) (2. 30' only 8 inflected) (July 20' 8. 20' O)

It is wonderful how much less action the Carbonate than Nitrate. I put in 2 very red & oldish leaves in 30 m. of 1 gr to 20 oz of the Nitrate & almost all the tentacles were inflected in 15'.— but the glands not rendered black though perhaps darker red— I tried this from seeing so little action that I fancied these very new red leaves would not act

July 19' 73/ Carbonate of Ammonia 1 gr to 100 10 oz.
(5) water Carbonate 8º. 26' (8 57' glands blackened, glands of all leaves in this sol. blackened) (10. 50' some sub-inflection) (Glands now in all very black) (2. 30' very little inflection)
(No Water specimens on this page)
carbonate (?) 8. 27' (glands do)
(10. 50; some sub-inflection) (2. 30' do)
(6.) water Carbonate 8. 28' —(10. 50' 2 or 3 inflected) (2. 30' do)
carbonate (9) 8. 29' — (10 30', some sub-inflection) (2. 30', do)
(7) water (5) Carbon 8. 48' (pale leaf) (8. 59' some inflection) (9. 10' all but 7 inflected) (10' 50' much sub-inflection) (2. 35' do)
carbonate (6) 8. 50; pale( leaf) (8. 59' great inflection) (9. 43' all except 7 or 8 inflect) but inf. (10' 50' do) (2. 35', do)
(9. 10 the gland of all these 6 specimens much blackened.) July 20' 8. 15 very little inflection in these 6 specimens, I suspect dose too strong)
(written over entries (5)—(8)) / Abstract
(1 gr. to 100 oz)
(8) Carbon (pale leaf) 8. 53' (8. 58' some inflection, gl not blackened) (9. 8' many inflected 9. 40; all except 40) (10' 55' do not blackened) (1. lamina much inflected)
(2. 35' all except 8 inflected) (July 20th 8. 15' beginning to reexpand: in neither of these 2 specimen glands at all blackened.)
N
carbonate (pale leaf) 8. 54' (8. 58 some inflect gl not blacked) (9. 8' all the tentacles except 9 marginals closely inflected; glands not blackened
(9. 40' all except 8) (9.. 40', all inflected except 40 tent) ; not blackened) (10. 53' do.; not blackened) (1. lamina much inflected.) (2. 35', all more or less inflected) (July 20' 8. 15' much segregation, beginning to reexpand)
This page well shows vast differences in sensitivity 1 young & old leaves

July 22d Carb. of Am. 1 gr to 200 oz ( 1/2 dr.)
(1) Water young pale leaf 8º. 31' ((10, 48' enormously inflected)) (transposition indicated with (...))
4º 30' all extreme outer marginals closely inflected
Carb. young leaf 8º. 25' (10 50' tr ten or 12 marginals & shorter inner sub-marginals forming ring)
(4º 30' only a ring on disc)
Aggregation see Back
(2) water young leaf 8. 32' (10. 50', outer discals a little inflected) (transposition indicated with '(10. ...' below)
(4º 30' outer discals & inner sub-marginal forming a fine ring.)
Car. old leaf 8. 27' (10. 50' tr 2 or 3 marginals)
(4º 30' trace of ring on disc)
(I daresay intense Heat of day caused so much inflection in the Water specimens)
(3) water old leaf 8. 33' (10 52', s-marginal over pedicel inflect or sub-inflected)
(4º 30' all reexpanded)
Carb. young leaf 8º. 28' (10. 53' 4 or 5 marginal inflect)
(4º 30' ring on disc)
(4) water old 8. 35' (10. 53' O) (4º 30', O)
Carb. 8º. 29' (10 '55' 2 marginal) (4º 30' ,O)
4º 31' The water spec. more conspicuously inflected than the C. of Am spec
11. No effect from this dose of C. of Am

9. 33' no action on any carbonates
(2. 30' no 4 Carb. of Am. & no 4 water compared, probably a trace more seg in the former than in the latter, but not well marked.)
Certainly a little more seg in the C. of A. than in water

(10. 45' comparing all 8 no doubt much or action in the Carbonate than in the water specs.)
(I may add in the 2 tried on a previous day 1 gr to 100 oz extreme limit of action)
