4º 40' washed & all put into pure water

Sept 3d    8. Am the 4 leaves look much discoloured with glands colourless.— closely contracted, I think killed.— (changed water again with the specimen on p. 1— to 4 —)

Sept 3d    8. 15' A m —    I think are reexpanding    glands pink—    leaves look healthy

   9. P.m.    —x after 25. 3 of leaves almost reexpanded & aft 2 days fully rexpanded

Sept 4th  3    8. A m 00 do    the 4th leaf still closely inflected & some of the glands quite white

Sept 5th  4    8' A m" — do in the same state — all the leaves expanded except one, & look rather fresh, & yet I think are functionless & some few glands white — far less injurious than other acids, for 3 leaves here quite reexpanded.

Nitric Acid    1. to 437 water.

Sept. 2d.    10. 27'

(1) (9.) (11. no decided inflection)

   (12. perhaps a trace of action & discolouration of water)

   (1. great inflection & lamina — fluid reddish — 2. 30'

— (4º 45' all immensely inflected put into water (6. 30')— this in water

(2. 30'    great inflection in all 4 leaves, except in 12 in which it is only moderate

Sept 3d    8. 15' A m — all still closely inflected— almost all glands colourless. but some not affected & still pink, & on 1 leaf many glands still pink

Sept 4th    8. A.    in the same state

Sulphuric Acid    to 1 to 437 Water

Sept. 2d.    10. 45'.

(1) (13)    1. some inflection

   (2. 35' aft 4h. great inflection in all except 16    young leaf & in this only moderate    in 14 lamina much inflected.

(4º 50', all except (16) young leaf) immensely inflected put into pure Water)    aft 6h.

(15) (12. consid inflection) (1. all tents inflected

(16) (1. slight inflection

 N. B fluid from Prussic is very red, from Nitric a little so, & a fainter tinge from Sulphuric acid — none from Muriatic A.

Sept 3d    8. 20'—    3 leaves still closely inflected (young pale leaf which was much affected still expanded— glands & some tentacles colourless  but the greater number red. —

Sept 4'    8. ,2 of the leaves closely inflected; the third & rather young leaf, with the extreme marginal fully expanded, & sub-marg sub-expanded—    the 4th young leaf in the same state with sub-marginals sub-i slightly inflected

5th    8. A.m.    same state, the youngest leaf fully reexpanded, the others closed with glands white— very injurious but not deadly to young leaves

Sept 3d.    8. 30'    Acetic A.    1 to 437 of water

4 leaves in 20 drs. of the above.

(9. 50'    all 4 leaves enormously inflected & laminae of 2 leaves.) (11. 10' water coloured most feebly pink)

(4º 45', water strongly coloured  leaves flaccid, most closely contracted    placed in pure water after crushing the leaves

Sept 4'    8. 10' — all most closely inflected — extraordinary dark red colour but glands colourless — I think almost dead.
