Sept 10th Chloride of Mercury 3 dr 1 1/2 dr of 1 gr to 1 oz 3 leaves 8. 50' —(8. 55' I think some inflection)

(9. 12' certainly some slight inflection

(9. 38' consider inflection; glands blackened)

2. 25 closely inflected do

Sept 11 8. 11' discoloured not slimy not expanded— I think dead put in pure water

13' 8. — still inflected & almost black very dark brown evidently dead — no plain segregation

Chloride of Zinc do do. 8. 52'

(10. 20', 25 O) no inflection on Sept 10'

Sept 11 8. 10' not inflected, except a few over base of pedicel.

Chloride of Iron do do 8. 54'

(10. 20' 25 O) 5. P.m no inflection

Sept 11th 8. 15' Considerable inflection — glands blackened, water all discoloured yellow with flocculent oxide of iron floating in water — Has evidently decomposed the Chloride — perhaps after death — Put into distilled water

Sept 12 8º I think has a little expanded

Sept 13' I think a little expanded — glands excessively black — tentacles red— apparently dead — no plain segregation

(20

Sept 10th 9. 2' Chloride of Cadmium 1 1/2 dr of 1 gr to 1 oz — 3 leaves

(10. 20', O)

(2. 23', a trace of inflection)

(5. certainly some inflection, more than water will explain)

Sept 11' 8. 15' all 3 leaves with tents inflected; not discoloured & look healthy

Sept 13' 8. — many tentacles still closely inflected, but neither glands not tentacles discoloured. — no plain segregation

Chloride of Cobalt do. do 9. 6'

(10. 20' O)

Sept 11' 8. 20' no a trace of inflection, but glands blackened, (as occurs after water )

Chloride of Lead do. do. 9. 10'

(10. 20' ,O)

Sept 11th 8. 20' not a trace of inflection; glands not blackened put into Phosphate of Ammonia

Sept 12th 8. 10', 2 leaves with considerably some inflection; a third with a little added more Phosphate of Am.— Sept 12th 8. in same state — not discoloured — I think the lead did not kill the leaves— Perhaps not absorbed — more inflection followed than generally occurs after mere water no plain segregation

(21

Sept 10th 10. 35' Chloride of Manganese 1 gr. to 1 oz 1 1/2 dr. to 3 leaves.

Sept 11 8. 25' no more inflection than occurs wit in water — glands not blackened — Put into Phosphate of Am 1 gr to 20 oz

Sept 12th 8. 15 not a trace of inflection, except on disc as often occurs after water

Sept 13' 8º same state

no plain segregation

Chloride of Copper. do do 10 Onil 38'

12. 45' some inflection

2. 20' closely inflected — glands very black

Sept 11' 8. 30' disco glands discoloured — closely inflected —Leaves limp— evidently de put into pure water

Sept 13th closely inflected — glands & tentacles dingy brown evidently dead — no plain segregation

Chloride of Nickel do do. 10. 43'

after 25h 11. 8' some consid inflection in 2 reddish leaves; non in the green leaves.

11. 35' greatly inflected —2. 20' very closely inflected

Sept 11 8. 30 closely inflected glands blackened but not all put into pure water

Sept 13' 8. 15' very closely inflected somewhat discoloured glands & tents dingy red — no plain segregation

(22

Sept 17th 10. 33' Chloride of Tin 1 gr to 1 oz, not quite all dissolved (4 leaves 2 pale & 2 red)

(11. 10' no effect)

(2. 15', hardly any effects, perhaps not more than water)

4º 50' — the 2 red leaves have here & there a tent inflected)

(4º 50' all 4 leaves with discals & adjoining tent closely inflected, but not the outer marginals)

Sept 18th 8. 10', all 4 leaves with every tent closely inflected & laminae of all fluid coloured pale pink — I think evidently killed — washed gave pure water

Sept 19th. 8º not in the least expanded evidently killed

Sept 21' 8. 23' 3 red leaves in Tartrte of Antimony 1 gr to 1 oz of water

(4º 50' slight inflection — 2 of the leaves)

22d 8. 30' — 2 leaves closely inflected, the 3d moderately — glands not more blackened nor much mucus secreted— washed & put into pure water

23d still closely inflected (24' 9. still closely inflected) probably killed)
