If these reefs really belong to the barrier class & have subsided, we here have an instance of subsidence following having followed elevation, & both movements apparently within the recent period. The same remark probably applies to the reefs of the central parts of the Red Sea. There are also many cases of coral-formations, such as Elizabeth Island, Metia, Mangaia, several [text excised] & one of the Loyalty islands,
