Bone. 1s Experiment (imperfect)

Nov. 2d 73 8° A.m. Sticks 2 & 3 — leaves very pale & poor, put on 2 rather irregular small cubes of hard bone from surface of vertebræ of ox.— (if experiment fails need not mention for leaves too poor)

Nov. 3d 8° 30' tentacles & laminæ closely inflected over the cubes. (Nov 4' closely inflected)

Nov 7' 2° 15' as I was going from home I was forced to examine these now.— Tentacles still clasped over them. Parts certainly seem softened— for on touching them in water several fragments of bone fell off— but whether any of the bony matter dissolved I dare not say — it may have been only that connecting animal matter was dissolved— but I think not so.
