Excited with albumen — no effect

May 7th 1874. 8° Am

Six sticks with Black wisp.

atoms of old Albumen moistened with saliva, & surrounding tentacles touched with saliva. (for Glycerine

May 8th 9°. all well inflected put into glycerine

May 9' 8° 50' put on drop of glycerine extract to some Hydrochloric A. 1— to 200 of water & added some of do to mass with the leaves & put on chimney piece. — added angular angular parallelograms of fresh boiled albumen to both.

May 15' not the least effect after 4 days

(3d trial utter failure)

May 11th 8° A.m. (8 paper Heads) tested on 2 points of each leaf secretion with damp litmus paper — not acid.

(If glass acts on some leaves worth recording, showing cinders too light)

took red-hot cinder out of fire & soaked for 28h in distilled water & then put on fragments.

(July May 12. 8' cinders did not act — put on bits of glass. 8° Am)

May 13'— The glass did not act hardly at all, but there was acid on disc of the few which were a little incurved—

Yet All the bits of glass used which I tried were acid

May 13' 8° 10. dusted with blue glass, particles of, & first ascertained though without much care not acid. 8 or 9 leaves, in 10' much inflection. (Given below as caution)

I have no doubt the explanation of this apparent anomaly, that the 8 cinders though not small did not act at all when placed on disc & the 8 bits (rather large) of glass did acted very slightly & only on few leaves, is due to cold weather & the plates having been taken out very warm greenhouse — give this as caution— Weight also seemed to come into play— ↘

Yet these same leaves when dusted with glass were somewhat inflected in 10 m
