Utricularia

July 18.

Fed w cartilage 6.30 PM

July 20 9.30 AM one bit has [illeg] slipped right in— In another of the pieces I could see that the glands were not inflected so as to touch it— 3 bit of Cartilage

Raw Meat

July 18— Put into a dish with 2 or 3 drops of raw meat infusion— (high) filled up with tank water—

July 20— 9.30 AM— Globular glands opaque yellow & much shrunk—

— July 20

Examined specimens straight from GreenHouse & found shrinking in them 3 1/2 days

X July 22d 8° 30' 1 spec of Cartilage sticking onto glands not touching round the valve not touching the cartilage — I can see no signs of digestion but position within bladder quite as much or more decayed than part inside — Second bit angles defined no trace of digestion; but entirely in Bladder. — 2 Cartilage no digestion

3d Bit partly in mouth & partly in bladder much decayed but no sign of digestion— — Looked at quadrifid spines in Bladder of last the quasi-nucleus is almost all at near tip with intercellular layer somewhat shrunk & not so transparent as generally — The globular glands or valve with contents shrunk as F drew— Those on margin not not much shrunk but with endless small spheres & particles all round walls besides the nucleus. The little globular glands on the margin are uppermost with 2 or 3 plants & beneath them I think some much larger & very transparent ones & then the common long-headed glands, I can make out no change of form in the spheres in the long-headed glands
