Dionæa

I touched hard one of filaments, (keeping leaf open with pincers) & after about 20'-25' 30' cut it off & opposite one & put under slip of glass in water. In about 45' after touching I found in the touched filament near apex a good many cells with aggregated contents, & these irregular & spherical masses certainly changed shapes. —There were plain traces in some other cells down whole course. But whether due to water or touch I know — (next time examine dry but under slip of glass.) The corresponding filament showed no segregation. On other hand after 2° 20' I examined the other pair & there was some segregation in both towards apex, but then the untouched filament perhaps touched the opposite side of 1/2 closed leaf. —

[in margin:] Leave for 45' after touching' or 60'

The third & middle filament, short almost rudimentary (I have observed other cases) I think some segregation in the touched one & not in the other
