27th at 8O 10' put 1 large old leaf. & one very tender very pale leaf in little cup, covered with glycerine 4 drops to 1 oz. & on 28th 11O 45. not a trace of inflection !! F
29th. 9.. Both leaves now have tentacles recovered; the old leaf in a most conspicuous degree. — Must be exosmose or death.—
Put 2 leaves in watch-glass with pure glycerine 29th 10O 40'
(30' 8O 15. (& so it was last night) all flaccid, shrivelled up & tentacles shrunk & in all sort of irregular positions.— Pure gly

(Pure glycerine put on 5 glands caused by Head of Pin these in few minutes to reach the surface. 9 try Olive oil) — June 29th Repeated this with same result)
(Minute drops of the sol. of 4 dropped drops to 1 oz sometimes acted on single glands, but not often & caused only partial inflection; & it is just possible that I may have touched glands.) 2 others have been acted on. I have no doubt acts.) Several have bent, but slowly, mixture rather weak) Jun 29th Repeated this with no success: perhaps I touched the glands before
(12O 59' 1O 3 red & yellow sticks pure glycerine 1/2 minim of 3 leaves .(3O several tentacles incurved rather irregularly)
27th 8O — gr leaves vy hispid, very little inflection of tentacles — glands which have been touched are colourless. & killed. F
27th 8O no inflection form the 4 drops to 1 oz of water. — Two young X → leaves with rather colourless glands, now have their on disc quite colourless. 28th. 11O 30' These 2 latter tent in same state no inflection — put on meat on all 5. Black sticks.
29th 8. 15 all now splendidly inflected over meat (N.B in 2 of these ten leaves, the tentacles which were much inflected over the meat clearly secreted more than the non-inflected
