As sec t. remain so much longer over meat than over inorganic some motor impulse must be continuously sent down one t. — But it appears from fly observation & other analogous ones, that as soon as gland stimulated, within a few second a strong shock of m. impulse is transmitted, which if strong enough will cross whole leaf even transversely & readily in a longitudinal line.—

"We may conclude that when gland stimulated it sends forth a shock of m. imp. & appears as long as stimulus & secreting acid— a very feeble continuous stream.
