[133]

Drosera filiformis Oct. 1. 1870. Plants very small, but yet acts well with atoms of dry meat.— (Also I wet handle of scalpels with my saliva & then touched several heads; these all curved greatly in less than 1° — after interval of 18° all straight) again.—

I put on larger atoms of charcoal, brick & wood, no trace of effect— nor had hard friction, or friction & brick — yet the filaments, bearing charcoal, aft for 2 or 3 days, bowed by sympathy when atom of meat had been put on on neighbouring filament. — After friction glands secreted much viscid fluid after 20°.

After meat great bowing after 50'. —

After about 24° or 36° the filaments at no great distance from one with meat all slowly bow towards it, until ultimately from all side of narrow leaf they meet in one great drop

of fluid round meat.— So sympathy, but slower than in English Drosera —

Great distinction of non-nitrog. substance & friction producing no effect. —

Solid & fluid. Nitrog. cause movement.

sympathetic movements, I think, slower.
